Hradec Králové - The first officials of the Hradec Králové Region started moving today to the new regional office, which was created by converting the former Hradec brewery. The relocation of more than 350 officials is expected to be completed by December 7. The construction of the headquarters took place from April 2005 to October this year. The region will pay 1.48 billion crowns for it. This is the largest investment project of the region and probably the most expensive headquarters for officials in the entire Czech Republic. The first to move into the new premises were the officials from the Department of Transport and Road Economy, who until now had been operating from the Aldis Congress Center, said the spokesman for the region, Imrich Dioszegi. The move of Governor Pavel Bradík (ODS) is scheduled for December 3. The last to move will be the office of the director, who is in charge of organizing the relocation. About 40 people are expected to move daily. For the public, the region set up a special phone line 844 842 842, where operators provide up-to-date information on where and when officials can be found. The line should operate at least until the end of February. The actual move is expected to cost the region approximately 300,000 crowns. "During the move, about 7,000 cardboard boxes and over three kilometers of bubble wrap will be used," noted Dioszegi. The public could view the new headquarters from the outside last weekend during the pre-Christmas market held in the courtyard of the Regiocentrum Nový pivovar. An open house in the new headquarters is planned before the end of the year. The region is currently located in a nearly 20-year-old building that used to be the regional committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, which was renovated for 150 million crowns. However, only about two-thirds of the employees can fit into the building, with the rest working at two other locations in the city, at Aldis and in the offices of the ZVU company. The project for the new headquarters has been criticized by opposition regional councilors from the KDU-ČSL since its inception. They are concerned that the region will have to cut spending on healthcare, education, and transport because of it. Representatives of the regional coalition led by ODS reject the criticism.
