Hradec Králové

Hradec Králové - Builders today began the challenging repair of the recently constructed seat of the Hradec Králové Region. Water is leaking into the building, which last year received the prestigious title of Building of the Year, and the regional authority is unable to use some of the spaces at all because of this. The repairs are expected to last until June and should not affect the operations of the office. Jiří Hošna from the region's press department told ČTK.

Workers will dismantle the pavement of Brewery Square in the middle of the regional authority premises, which also serves as the roof of a parking garage. They will then repair the poor insulation and the buildings damaged by moisture. Costs are estimated in the millions of korunas. The region will not have to pay anything because the repairs are part of the construction warranty. The construction was carried out by the largest Czech construction company, Skanska, from April 2005 to October 2007.
Builders will also use noisy equipment during the repairs. Workers are therefore expected to predominantly work in the afternoon hours and on weekends. Access to the courtyard via the stairs from the winter stadium will likely be closed for a time. People should be more cautious when crossing the courtyard.
Issues at the construction site became most noticeable at the turn of January and February this year. As the snowdrifts in the courtyard melted, water began to drip from the ceilings of some of the office rooms in the authority or from the electrical installations. "I estimate the repairs will cost millions of korunas. I welcome the fact that the construction company that built the complex has acknowledged the complaint," said Deputy Governor Vladimír Derner (KDU-ČSL).
The region's seat was created by renovating the Hradec Brewery. The region will pay 1.87 billion korunas for the seat through a twenty-year lease. The construction was pushed through by the ODS party. Especially at that time, the opposition Christian Democrats, led by Derner, harshly criticized the construction for its costliness.
