Pardubice - The Society of Jan Kašpar has chosen the winning design for the renovation of the tomb of this significant Czech aviator and native of Pardubice. The design was created by Pardubice authors Josef Procházka and Jan Třeštík. The costs are expected to reach 360,000 crowns, and if everything goes well, the tomb should be completed by the end of this year. This was announced today at a press conference by Jiří Kotyk, the chairman of the Society of Jan Kašpar. "The costs will be shared by the Pardubice V district, the Pardubice Region, and sponsors. A contribution has been pledged, for example, by the aviator's great-niece Eva Perrová. The evaluation criteria for the competition included originality, creativity, and the artistic and architectural level of the solutions," Kotyk stated. The tomb will feature a modest gray and black color scheme and will include a depiction of the famous Blériot aircraft, which Jan Kašpar (1883–1927) successfully flew between Pardubice and Prague-Velká Chuchle in 1911. The winning design was selected by a jury that included, for example, Eva Perrová, architects Miroslav Řepa and Jiří Weinzettl, and art historian Bohdan Šeda. In addition to the renovation of Kašpar's tomb, a statue of him is also set to be erected in Pardubice soon. It will stand on Třída Míru as the city prepares for a design competition. Aviation in Pardubice is already commemorated by a memorial with a small airplane in Dukelských hrdinů Square. There is a commemorative plaque in the underpass of the train station marking the 125th anniversary of the aviator's birth. A hangar and an aviation school once stood at that site. In 2010, another commemorative plaque was added at 645 Bratranců Veverkových Street, where Kašpar spent his later years with his sister. He died on March 2, 1927.
