Šumperk - One of the most beautiful villas in Šumperk, located on Husova street, has undergone extensive reconstruction. The repairs of the building, which was constructed at the beginning of the 20th century and now houses the Educational-Psychological Counseling of the Olomouc Region, cost nearly four million crowns. The reconstruction lasted several years, and the repairs were financed by the Olomouc Region, which is the founder of the counseling center, representatives of the Šumperk city hall informed ČTK. The ceremonial symbolic opening of the building, which has often appeared on postcards of the city, is scheduled for Thursday.

The reconstruction of the villa took place in stages starting from 2007. First, the builders replaced the roof, in 2012 the windows were replaced, and this year the building was insulated and new facades were added. The total costs amounted to 3.85 million crowns. "The villa at Husitská street 12 is one of the first magnificent structures that rose in this part of Šumperk during the time when the city was nicknamed Little Vienna. In 1903, it was built according to the design of a famous architect from Vienna by builders Heinrich Popp and Ernst Ulrich," stated city hall spokeswoman Olga Hajduková.

The architects created a spatially imaginatively complex building in the spirit of the so-called Saxon neorenissance, complemented by stylized Gothic reminiscences and modified Art Nouveau elements. "The new villa was considered one of the most beautiful buildings in the city of Šumperk and very often appeared on city postcards," added the city hall spokeswoman.

The villa has experienced various owners and uses throughout its history. In the past, it housed, for example, the dormitory of the Secondary Industrial and Railway School in Šumperk, and later it served as the base for the educational-psychological counseling center.
