The end of the summer semester is approaching, and with it the traditional students' competition Ještěd in the Cage, organized annually by students in cooperation with the Faculty of Art and Architecture of the Technical University of Liberec. This year's 36th edition will offer a diverse program connecting architecture, art, public space, sports, film, and music from June 17 to June 19.
The program will kick off on Wednesday June 17 at Lesní koupališti in Liberec. The evening will start with an informal gathering of students, teachers, and the public, followed by a lecture by jury member Kateřina Vídeňová, a student performance, and a concert by the band Letmo.
The Thursday program on June 18 will feature Archirun with Jan Koníček, a pop-up event prepared in collaboration with the creative collective Fúzia, and an evening debate with the jury in the Linserka space. The day will conclude with a screening of the film We Will Invent a New Sport by authors Demuthová and Štěpařová.
The climax of the competition will take place on Friday June 19 in building F of the Faculty of Art and Architecture. Visitors will have the opportunity to visit open studios, participate in lectures from the guest studios of Pavla Sceranková, Dušan Záhoranský, and the Jinjan studio, and subsequently attend the ceremonial announcement of the results of this year's edition. The evening will continue with the traditional afterparty at Bar Papír featuring concerts by the bands Angst and Svaz and a DJ program until the early hours.
A joint breakfast on Saturday at Bar Papír will symbolically close JFK, where a meeting of students, teachers, alumni, and guests of the faculty will take place.
The winners of this year's edition will be decided by a panel of experts composed of prominent figures from the contemporary architecture and art scene. Invited members include visual artist Anna Fiedlerová, architect and researcher Max Mohl, architect and educator Kateřina Vídeňová, visual artist Jiří Pitrmuc, and architect Jonáš Krýzl.
Ještěd in the Cage has long been one of the most significant student events at the Faculty of Art and Architecture at TUL. In addition to presenting student works, it creates a space for meeting, sharing experiences, and discussing the current state of architecture, art, and education.
We look forward to meeting together in Liberec!
