Jihlava - Jihlava will apply for a grant to renovate a listed building in Matky Boží Street. It used to be inhabited, but it has not been in use for the last few years. The city hall plans to undertake a complete reconstruction, which will cost approximately 35 million crowns. There will then be tours in this monument focused on the architectural development of the building and the living standards of the time up to 1945. This information comes from data provided to ČTK by the city's spokesperson Radovan Daněk.

The building last served as rental housing, containing one apartment. "Since October 2014, the property has been vacant and unused. It needs to be repaired," said the spokesperson. The house has been a cultural monument since 2016. The city will apply for a grant for its repairs under the IROP program.

House Matky Boží 35 is located by the Minorite monastery church and close to the Matky Boží Gate, which the city also intends to renovate in the near future. In the upper floors of the gate, there will be a new interactive exhibition focused on the development of the city's fortifications. The exhibition in the Matky Boží house is intended to thematically complement it.

The roof, facade, internal areas, and courtyard section of the house need to be repaired. Historically valuable elements will be restored to preserve the monument in the most authentic form possible. Repairs could begin next year, the city hall stated on its website.

The costs for the reconstruction of the Matky Boží Gate are also expected to exceed 30 million crowns, and the city would like to carry out this project with the help of a grant. The prism tower with an observation deck is 24 meters high and, according to the heritage catalog, is the only preserved gate among the original five central city gates. Currently, it houses a tourist information center, an exhibition with a model of the city from the 15th century, and there are also reproductions of paintings by the artist Gustav Krum.
