Brno - The South Moravian Region will allocate over 350 million crowns for culture this year. It will provide 160 million for operational costs to subsidized organizations, around 45 million will go to investments, over 30 million to grant programs, and tens of millions for the construction of Janáček Cultural Center, cultural events, or other organizations. Jiří Klement from the regional office's press department informed ČTK about this.
The South Moravian Region is the founder of nine subsidized cultural organizations and one public research institution. "In 2019, based on the approved budget, financial resources amounting to nearly 160 million will be provided to the subsidized organizations for operational costs, and 6.5 million to the public research organization," Klement stated.
The region will also give 16 million to the Moravian Regional Library in Brno, which serves as a regional library. The Department of Culture and Heritage Preservation allocated nearly two million crowns for investments to its subsidized organizations, and the Investment Department has set aside over 43 million for investments in cultural subsidized organizations. This year, for example, the renovation of the facade of the Vyškov Castle will be completed, as well as work on the sanitary facilities of the Cornštejn Castle ruins.
The region has also announced grant programs in culture and heritage preservation. Over 28 million will be distributed among 284 entities, including 203 in culture and 81 in heritage preservation. For the Museum Night and Night of Churches in the South Moravian Region, the region has allocated one million crowns and 1.5 million for the support of local significance monuments. A total of 16.6 million crowns has been earmarked for individual grants.
According to Klement, this year's budget includes a grant of 25 million crowns for the Janáček Cultural Center. The concert hall, costing over a billion, is an investment of the city of Brno. The state and the region will also participate. An additional 50 million has been earmarked by the region for events in culture and heritage preservation of regional significance. Based on multi-year contracts, three cultural entities, namely the International Center for Slavic Music, the Czech Philharmonic Choir Brno, and the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts, will also receive over eight million from the region.
