Karlín Group will build dormitories in Prague for more than 600 students

Prague - Developer Karlín Group and the German company International Campus will build student dormitories for more than 600 people in Prague's Holešovice district. The eight-story building will offer 529 apartments, with room sizes around 20 square meters. Construction is set to begin this year in the second quarter and should be operational from 2020. Karlín Group announced this today to ČTK in a press release. The amount of investment was not disclosed.

The rooms will mostly be for one student and will be significantly separated from common areas. The project includes a restaurant for students and the public, a party room, a large terrace with a sky bar, a space for summer barbecues, and an underground parking lot for 71 cars. Students will also have access to study rooms, two small cinemas, one large multifunctional hall, three larger shared kitchens, a fitness center, an outdoor sports field, a large bike rental, and a laundry room.

The dormitories will be located at the intersection of Na Zátorách and Partyzánská streets, near the train station and the Prague-Holešovice metro station. Karlín Group has been planning the construction in this location for some time, but was looking for a co-investor. Eventually, the company reached an agreement with International Campus not only for the construction of this building but also for other projects. They plan to build around 2,500 accommodation places for students in Prague in total.

A survey conducted by ČTK last September indicates that student interest in accommodation in university dormitories has increased compared to the past. According to dormitory managers, this may be due to rising rent prices in private apartments and the difficulty of finding rental apartments, especially in large cities. The capacities of university dormitories in Prague were fully occupied at the beginning of the school year. A single student room in the capital usually costs around 4,300 crowns per month.
