Karlovy Vary are preparing a renovation of the Jelení skok restaurant

Karlovy Vary – The city of Karlovy Vary is preparing to renovate the popular excursion restaurant Jelení skok. The historic building from the First Republic is out of operation because a suitable tenant has not been found. After the renovation, the restaurant at the eponymous lookout should operate year-round, which could improve its economy, said Miroslav Vaněk (Karlovaráci), the deputy mayor, to ČTK.

According to him, the costs for the project documentation are estimated to be around one million. From the project, the necessary costs for the renovation will arise. Vaněk admitted that it would not be cheap. In addition to the restaurant, the building could also include about five rooms for accommodation. This would increase the attractiveness of Jelení skok and the possibility of sustaining operations throughout the season.

"At this moment, there is a food truck there and restrooms are available for visitors, so we can utilize this area both for city visitors and for locals," said Vaněk. "We have approved the tender for the project documentation for the building permit, which means a complete renovation of the building," he added. "It is a beautiful building in a very nice location and has an incredible genius loci," said Vaněk, noting that the city would like to restore it to the state it was in during the First Republic.

The city has preliminarily obtained the consent of the heritage conservationists as a basic condition for insulating the building and modifying it for year-round operation. Now the designer must propose a solution that the conservators would approve.

The city unsuccessfully attempted to lease the restaurant last February. Only one interested party applied in the tender with an offer that was not acceptable to the city. After the failure of the first competition, the city hall decided to change the conditions of the tender. In the summer, the city signed a contract with a newly selected tenant, which was terminated in October because they did not pay the deposit.
