Česká Lípa - The Crystal Cultural House in Česká Lípa will have not only a reconstructed entrance and facilities but also new sound equipment. The city hall spent nearly two million crowns on a modern audio system for the main social hall. Kristýna Kňákal Brožová, the spokesperson for the city hall, said this to ČTK today.
Work on the modernization of the 35-year-old building is ongoing during its operation; the renovation of the entrance area and sound system will not be the end, as the city hall plans to continue with repairs to this valuable building in the coming years.
"The audio system includes ten new speakers with accessories, such as mounting frames and other components, cables, and an amplifier. The new audio system will primarily help sound smaller events organized at KD Crystal by the cultural contribution organization. For larger concerts, bands usually bring their own equipment to ensure the concert has enough 'juice,'" added the city hall spokesperson. The new sound system will be assessed by visitors attending the charity concert Swing Christmas for the Echo Foundation on Thursday evening.
"For cultural facilities, it matters not only how it looks inside but also the technical equipment. This usually determines what types of events can be organized. Therefore, I am glad that in addition to the building itself, we are gradually investing in its equipment," said Mayor Jitka Volfová (ANO).
The multifunctional Crystal building was designed by architect Jiří Suchomel and his team, enhancing and enclosing the garden of the Česká Lípa Museum. It is partially buried into the terrain, and the sloping southern façade acts as an air collector for solar energy. The partial embedding into the ground, good thermal insulation design, and the possibility of heat accumulation in the building's foundation create the overall concept of energy efficiency. Work on the project began in 1975, but the cultural house has only served the public since December 1990. In addition to two halls and a foyer, the building houses a cinema, a restaurant, a ballet hall, and a gallery.
However, after years of operation, the building needs modernization, and the city hall plans to carry it out in phases. This year, they invested nearly 20 million crowns into the building. In mid-July, reconstruction began on the restroom facilities, both entrances to the cultural house, and the staircase to the monastery gardens. "At the beginning of November, the right door, which had not been used for years, was opened, and work moved to the left entrance, which people had been used to using so far," added Kňákal Brožová. The air conditioning of the toilets will also be renovated, and attention will be given to the outdoor space.
