Česká Lípa - The city wants to relocate the library at Ladech in Česká Lípa. The second largest branch of the city library is located in unsuitable basement premises of a recently insulated apartment building on Komenského Street. However, the location is not suitable for the library, there is little light, water seeps into the space, and most importantly, there is a lack of barrier-free access, said today the spokesperson for the Česká Lípa town hall, Kristýna Kňákal Brožová.

The town hall therefore wants to move the branch a few meters further into the ground floor of the neighboring building. "There are long-term unused ground floor spaces there, which are more suitable for the modern operation of the library. Thanks to the move, access to the library will improve for readers as it will now be barrier-free," added the town hall spokesperson. The city is now looking for a project manager whose task will be to design all construction modifications to create a pleasant and operationally suitable space.

The Česká Lípa city library has 140,000 items in its collection, and about 600 people use its services daily. In addition to the main building in T.G. Masaryk Square just a few steps from the town hall, it has three branches in the residential areas of Lada, Špičák, and Holý Vrch, two lending locations in senior residences, and a branch in the rural community of Dobranov. The branch in Špičák, which is located in a former kindergarten, underwent an expensive reconstruction in recent years.

Through a reconstruction costing 35 million crowns, a community house was created in Špičák, where alongside the library, the Česká Lípa branch of the Unified Organization of the Blind and Partially Sighted of the Czech Republic also gained space. "The library building in Špičák was really in a deplorable condition. In winter it was cold because it was drafty, in summer it was hot because some windows couldn't be opened," recalled the condition of the building, the director of the Municipal Library of Česká Lípa, Dana Kroulíková. Thanks to the reconstruction, the branch also gained a hall where it can hold various events.
