Prague - The Central Bohemian Region wants to negotiate a settlement regarding the dispute with the company Mladá RP, which is demolishing dilapidated buildings in the former military area of Milovice in the Nymburk region. This decision was made today by the regional councilors, said Governor Miloš Petera (CSSD) to reporters. The region has terminated the contract with the company, stating that it has not performed all the demolitions even within the replacement deadline. The company denies any wrongdoing and wants to defend itself against the decision of the regional authority by all available legal means, according to its previous statements.
According to Petera, the result of the negotiations should be the conclusion of an agreement to terminate the lease and a settlement. The goal is to find a compromise to avoid a court dispute that would burden both parties in the long term. "They offered us some initial proposal for the settlement, and we want to build on that," stated Petera, adding that it is necessary to demonstrate the costs incurred in the area and to quantify the revenue as well. The region has had its own assessment prepared for this purpose. Petera did not want to disclose the amounts involved.
The Central Bohemian Region signed a lease agreement with Mladá RP in 2010. According to this agreement, the company was to utilize the area for 40 years, for which it paid an advance rent of 25 million crowns. The company claims it still has three years to remove the hangars and dilapidated panel buildings. According to the region, all buildings were supposed to disappear within five years of signing the contract, that is, by last December. Therefore, the councilors had previously decided that the region would withdraw from the contract, with the three-month notice period expiring on August 5, according to the governor.
The former military area in Milovice is the largest brownfield site in the Czech Republic. The demolition of the hangars and dilapidated panel buildings that remained there after the withdrawal of Soviet troops in 1991 began at the beginning of 2014. After the land modifications, the area of more than 600 hectares is expected to be transformed into space for industrial use.
