Brno - The South Moravian Region is selling the grounds of the horticultural school in Brno-Bohunice, from which the last students will leave this June. In the tender process, it is being offered to the interested party that bids the most money, with a minimum of 40 million crowns. CTK discovered this from the regional website. In Brno, there had been speculation that the region is relocating the school to Rajhrad precisely because of the lucrative land. However, in order for the investor to be able to build residential buildings on it, they would first have to enforce a change in the zoning plan.
The region is selling the entire extensive site along Lány Street, except for the main building with the park. The main building is a listed monument, and its facade and architectural design were created in 1901 by architect Dušan Jurkovič. Recently, original plans bearing his signature were found in the school.
The city of Brno wants to acquire the main building with the park from the region. This transaction is part of an exchange that city councilors recently proposed to the region. It involves the exchange of educational properties.
The region is offering the remainder of the site for sale, which includes a number of buildings and plots. Among them are a canning factory, a dormitory, a gatehouse, boiler rooms, storage facilities, greenhouses, workshops, garages, and several family houses. The plots are registered in the cadastre as built-up area, gardens, or arable land.
The horticultural school in Bohunice originally managed 11 hectares of land. In 2005, it lost about half of it - the Land Fund issued them as compensation for the restitution claim of Karel Wimětal. He was not an heir but purchased the claim and acquired the land for 12 crowns per square meter. If it were to become building land in the future, the price could rise to 3,500 crowns, estimated the then head of the financial committee of the regional council, Jiří Kadrnka (ODS).
Interested parties for the remaining part of the site must submit their bids by March 21 and must also appear in person at the regional office. Among the conditions of the process is, for example, the payment of a million crown deposit.
