Kutná Hora - Kutná Hora could begin an expensive reconstruction of the indoor swimming pool next year. Everything depends on whether the city manages to obtain a subsidy. Talks are currently underway, and it should be clear by the end of June, said Mayor Lukáš Seifert to ČTK. According to a study commissioned by the city, the extensive reconstruction of the pool is estimated to cost 220 million crowns.
"By the end of the first half of the year, we will have the documentation for the building permit ready, an application will be made for the building permit, and in September, we will have the documentation for implementation completed," Seifert stated.
The city is seeking significant support from public sources because it lacks the funds to cover the repair itself. "It doesn't even make sense. The residents of Kutná Hora make up less than half of the visitors to the pool, so I don't know why they should bear all the repair costs," noted the mayor. Currently, according to him, negotiations to obtain a subsidy are ongoing. "Whether we will be able to start the repairs in 2026, I will know by the end of June," Seifert said.
The reconstruction plans include changes to the locker room layout, re-lining of the swimming and teaching pools, insulation of the facade, a new roof, as well as network installations and an entry and ticketing system. Inside, a wellness zone and sauna area will be created, while the children's pool will get new attractions. The reconstructed building will also include rooms for accommodating visitors. "This is one of the last three sports pools in Central Bohemia. We are not going to build a water park like that in Kolín, but we genuinely want a sports pool," emphasized Seifert.
The Kutná Hora pool is in poor condition. According to an analysis by the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Czech Technical University, the facility can be repaired and demolition is not necessary. The current operation of the indoor pool is reportedly very costly, with the city significantly subsidizing it each year. Problems mainly stem from the technological infrastructure and the pool is not insulated. The outdoor swimming area is also not in good condition, but according to the city, it is capable of further operation with proper maintenance.
Seifert pointed out that over 40 schools use the pool for swimming lessons. "It is a mandatory part of the educational curriculum. I don't know how the 40 schools would be able to fulfill this obligation in the future if the pool is not renewed," he added.
