Prague - Due to the construction of a biotope swimming pool at the Prague Exhibition Grounds, it is necessary to change the zoning plan. This could delay the implementation of the project, which was approved by the city council last December. According to Prague Mayor Adriana Krnáčová (ANO), the natural swimming pool, which operates on the principle of water circulation cleaned by the natural functions of microorganisms from aquatic plants, is expected to cost approximately 36.4 million crowns and be completed by October 2019.
In the fourth zone of the Exhibition Grounds, which is primarily intended for recreation and is characterized by its connection to Stromovka, work is now being completed on a barbecue area and a bike park for children. The costs for the track, especially for small cyclists, are 6.6 million crowns; according to the mayor, a refreshment area is also set to be built nearby. A barbecue area is to be installed along the Bruselská road in the coming weeks, for which the city has paid 4.8 million crowns.
The city is currently cultivating the Exhibition Grounds. It has allowed the greenery to be pruned and cleaned up the neglected areas. At the same time, the entrance gates in front of the Exhibition Grounds have partially disappeared. The area in front of the Industrial Palace could now serve as a square. The Exhibition Grounds are now newly accessible all day from Stromovka. The grounds will be closed in the future during festivals but otherwise will remain open.
However, attractions that have been in the park for several decades are slowly disappearing from the Exhibition Grounds. The roller coaster, which has been in the Exhibition Grounds since 1974 and has not been dismantled since 1982, when it last traveled to the then Soviet Union, and the Ferris wheel, have received eviction notices and must find new locations. The Ferris wheel will be newly constructed in Poland, while a new location for the roller coaster has not yet been found.
The Exhibition Grounds at Stromovka was created in 1891 on the occasion of the Jubilee Land Exhibition. A flood in 2002 caused significant damage to the grounds. Six years later, a fire engulfed the Industrial Palace and damaged the left wing. Construction of a replica of the left wing of the Industrial Palace could begin next year. The state has allocated 1.3 billion crowns.
This year, approximately 20 concerts, six music festivals, a summer cinema with a complementary program, and theatrical productions are planned to take place at the Exhibition Grounds. Last year, there were 140 events at the Exhibition Grounds. The Industrial Palace alone offered programming for 270 days of the year. A total of about 1.7 million people visited the grounds, which is 330,000 more than in 2016.
