Prague - Due to the Blanka tunnel, two new parks will be created in Prague. The first company, Metrostav, which is constructing the tunnel complex of the city ring road, will build it between Myslbekova, Patočkova streets, and the baroque city walls. The second will be located between Jelení and Milady Horákové streets. This was stated by Metrostav spokesman František Polák.
At the intersection of Myslbekova and Patočkova streets, the company plans to create a green area with two ponds, fed by the Brusnice stream. "There used to be gardening colonies here," Polák said. According to visualizations on the Blanka tunnel's website, an amphitheater, a small lookout, and benches for resting will also be created between the busy Patočkova street and the walls. "The park will be passable, connecting Patočkova street with Keplerova street," Polák added. According to Polák, the builders had to evict several homeless people from the area.
Another small park will be built by Metrostav between Milady Horákové and Jelení streets. According to the design, new trees will be planted in the park, and a fountain is also to be established. Polák believes that visitors to Prague Castle will welcome the park, as they will be able to rest there after touring the castle. A lively underpass will lead from the park to Vítězné náměstí in Prague 6 so that people do not have to cross the busy roadway of Milady Horákové street.
Trees will also be added in Letná. "Compared to the current state, we will plant about 250 trees here," Polák said.
The northwestern part of the city ring road will be 6.4 kilometers long. About 5.5 kilometers of the road will be in tunnels. The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2011. The costs for the construction work will reach 21.2 billion crowns, with technology costing an additional 4.5 billion crowns.
