Špindlerův Mlýn - The Hřebenová Labská hut near Špindlerův Mlýn in the Krkonoš Mountains will be closed until spring due to repairs. This is stated on the hotel's website. The Labská hut, located at an altitude of 1340 meters on Labská meadow northwest of Špindlerův Mlýn, is a popular stop for tourists heading to the source of the Elbe.
"Work will be done in the interiors, for example, on the reconstruction of the restaurant and buffet. It would not be possible to do this while operating. The expectation is that we will open in May, when the bus starts running (to Vrbatova hut)," said the operator Pavel Blažek to ČTK today.
In the coming years, a comprehensive renovation of the Labská hut's exterior is also planned, costing more than ten million crowns. The renovation of the façade will include thermal insulation of the building. On the front eastern side of the nine-story hotel, which will regain its original light grey color, a climbing wall will also be created. However, the construction work in the winter season of 2018/2019 does not relate to this project.
The Labská hut is located in the first zone of the Krkonoš National Park. The reinforced concrete colossus, built at the turn of the 60s and 70s, bears the same name as the inn that burned down in 1965. The new hotel, with more than 170 beds, nearly 80 rooms, and two restaurants, began operations in 1975. The hotel's capacity is now about two-thirds, and the rooms are being gradually reconstructed.
The current owner, the AEZZ company, which also owns the Luční hut, purchased the property in 2012. Since then, they have built a wastewater treatment plant and replaced outdated utilities, including the installation of a new heating system. Attendance is growing; last year about 100,000 people were served in the restaurant and buffet, and they recorded 6,000 overnight stays. Compared to 2016, this represents a fifteen percent increase. Annual operational costs are approximately seven million crowns.
A meteorological station and a solar and ozone observatory of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute in Hradec Králové operate at the Labská hut.
