Hradec Králové - The demolition of the Labská hut in the Krkonoše Mountains and the mitigation of any potential ecological damage will be able to utilize European funds. This fact could significantly contribute to the Ministry of the Environment's decision to greenlight the purchase of the Labská hut. Czech Radio Radiožurnál reported this today. Funding from the ministry's budget would only be needed for co-financing and the actual purchase of the hotel, said Deputy Minister of the Environment Tomáš Tesař. The owner is asking for around 30 million crowns for the building. The ministry is currently investigating the best method to determine how much the remediation of the hut and the land beneath it will actually cost. "We do not know the level of potential soil contamination there, due to the heating system operation for more than 20 years. This is currently the subject of investigation, what we can monitor in some way and what we cannot," Tesař stated. The ministry will decide by Christmas. However, if the state does not purchase the hotel from the private owner in the first zone of the National Park, the hotel will be subject to strict regulations to prevent it from burdening the rare natural site.
