Špindlerův Mlýn (Trutnovsko) - Jiří Holeček, a mountain lodge operator who has worked at the ridge Luční bouda for the past seven years, wants to purchase Labská bouda in the Krkonošy Mountains. Holeček currently rents the lodge and is negotiating with the current owner about its sale, reports Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD) in its today's edition for the Hradec Králové region.

"We are negotiating with the owner about the sale. It can even be said that we are basically agreed. In the coming months, we want to resolve all formalities, and Labská bouda should be mine by the summer season," said Holeček. The building was acquired during the privatization of the state Interhotels Krkonošy by the transport company Pumr & Ryba from Lázně Bělohrad in 1996, which still owns it today. "Mr. Holeček currently operates Labská bouda and has it rented for an indefinite period. That is all I can say on the matter at this moment," said Martin Ryba, who is currently abroad.
In case Holeček buys the lodge, he wants to carry out some modifications within two years, such as increasing the number of available rooms, offering better services, and also opening exhibitions focused on mountain and natural science themes. "Mr. Holeček has proven at Luční that he is truly a very high-quality ridge lodge operator, and I believe that he has a chance to raise Labská as well. Although, in my opinion, it will be even more difficult there," said landscape ecologist and Krkonošy tourism entrepreneur Pavel Klimeš.
Labská bouda is located at the source of the Elbe River at an altitude of 1,340 meters above sea level in the most strictly protected zone of the Krkonošsko-Českomoravská Highlands National Park. The nine-story Labská bouda was built after six years of construction in 1975 near the site of the original burnt-down Labská bouda. The giant concrete mass of Labská bouda has evoked negative emotions from the public since its inception. In the past, there was talk of the state purchasing Labská bouda and demolishing the entire building. However, last year the state abandoned this plan. The reason is a lack of funds; the purchase and demolition of the building could cost up to 90 million crowns.
Students from the Czech Technical University in Prague have been dealing with Labská bouda and its reconstruction for several semesters, proposing several options for the renovation of the entire building. "It should be more like a pub, as there is year-round interest in dining there. Unlike accommodation. That would be enough for emergencies, in case someone experiences bad weather," said architect and educator Vít Kándl, who led the students.
