Nový Jičín – The city of Nový Jičín is preparing to build a new footbridge over the Jičínka river on Novo- sady street. The current footbridge is in a state of disrepair and must be removed. Project documentation should be created next year, followed by the construction of the footbridge and the revitalization of its surroundings. This was announced today by the spokesperson of the Nový Jičín town hall, Marie Machková.

"The existing footbridge over the Jičínka river was built in 1984. An inspection in December 2019 revealed that the steel structure of the bridge is in a state of disrepair," stated Machková.

The city has approached three architectural firms to submit proposals for the new footbridge's design and its connection to access roads. A professional committee selected the design from the Blank architect studio, which will also prepare the project documentation.

Lenka Ondřejová from the Nový Jičín Department of Development and Investments stated that part of the city’s request was for a safer solution for the intersection of Nábřežní and Novosady streets, to allow the use of the bridge for cyclists as well as pedestrians, and to provide lighting for the bridge. "We also wanted a new container standing for waste bins to be created on Nábřežní street as part of the revitalization, and about a 50-meter long paved pedestrian path from Novosady street towards the Tabačka shopping center," Ondřejová added.

According to the proposal from the winning studio, the footbridge is to be widened to three meters and will be nearly 41 meters long. To meet the requirements of the Odra River Authority, the footbridge will be raised one meter higher than the current one.
