Liberec - Liberec can sign a contract with the winner of the tender for the reconstruction of the swimming pool for three-quarters of a billion crowns excluding tax. No one filed a complaint with the Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS) against the results of the competition within the ten-day period. The city's mayor, Jaroslav Zámečník (Mayors for the Liberec Region), said this today to ČTK. The winner of the public tender was the company Metrostav DIZ, whose price of 748.8 million crowns excluding tax (906 million CZK) was the lowest among six bidders.
"I am, of course, pleased that the reconstruction will begin. The company would like to take over the construction site in October," said the mayor.
The city announced the contract for the reconstruction of the swimming pool more than a year ago, and originally intended to finalize it by the end of last year. However, due to objections, the deadline for submitting bids was extended until February of this year, and then it had to address objections concerning the winning Metrostav. Additionally, it investigated whether the contract was in order in connection with the investigation of a corruption case that involves contracts related to the city hall and former deputy mayor Petr Židek (former ODS). However, experts from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague found nothing unusual in the project documentation.
The only swimming stadium in the fifth largest city in the republic needs repairs, as important technological facilities are aging, the roof is leaking, the glazing of the building is inadequate, and the main pool is leaking. The area is also awaiting reconstruction. The most significant change will be that there will no longer be separate changing rooms for men and women on the ground floor; instead, there will be one large barrier-free changing room in the basement of the building. The wellness area will be where the current women's changing rooms are, and the fitness center will be where the men's changing rooms are. Thus, except for the pools, only the pizzeria will remain in its place. The reconstruction will last two years, and during that time the area will remain closed.
