Prague – The Ministry of Defense is selling more parts of the pre-war border fortifications. In the announcement published today, there are 30 light concrete fortifications, known as řopíky. In addition to these, the ministry also wants to dispose of several unnecessary plots of land. In total, there are 43 items with a minimum required purchase price of over 25 million crowns, the office informed today in a press release.

The Ministry of Defense is announcing its sixth tender this year for unnecessary real estate. Of more than forty items, 13 are being offered for the first time, with 12 of the new items being řopíky.

Among the offered properties, řopíky prevail, with a total of 30 available for sale. One small concrete fortification is located by the Berounka River about one kilometer before Karlštejn, five others are near Lubenec between Rakovník and Karlovy Vary, ten in South Moravia, and 14 in North Moravia between Opava and Horní Benešov in the Bruntál region.

"It should be mentioned that the ones in North Moravia are all on land owned by others. Despite the right of first refusal of the landowners, nothing prevents their sale because these owners have shown no interest. The ones in South Moravia, on the other hand, are being sold with their own land, except for two exceptions (Hrabětice and Lanžhot)," the ministry stated.

The defense ministry is also offering land for sale, including in Hloubětín, Prague, or in the village of Hradešín between Říčany and Český Brod. Additional smaller plots are being offered near Domažlice, Klatovy, and Tachov.

The Ministry of Defense is repeatedly disposing of unnecessary properties. Another announcement is expected to be published on October 3rd. Its content should mainly include unsold properties, again including fortification structures. The inclusion of some new items is also anticipated.

Řopíky were created in the late 1930s as part of the border fortifications. The name derives from the abbreviation ŘOP, which denoted the Directorate of Fortress Construction, which managed the construction of the fortifications. They are small reinforced concrete bastions designed for three to seven men, equipped with loopholes and armored doors.
