Brno - Four new statues are likely to be erected in Moravian Square in Brno. In addition to the equestrian statue of Margrave Jošt of Luxembourg, which symbolizes courage, works representing justice, moderation, and wisdom will be added - according to the four cardinal virtues of Plato, Mayor Roman Onderka told reporters today. The first of the quartet - Justice, right in front of the seat of the Supreme Administrative Court, could be completed in 2009. The councilors are now looking for its author. They envision it as a fountain, with reliefs depicting the attributes of the judiciary. The rest will depend on proposals, the mayor added. A year later, Margrave Jošt should also stand in the square. This statue will be the most expensive. While each of the others is estimated to cost about three million, the equestrian statue will cost between five and seven million. A foundation has already been established for its financing. "We will be reaching out to sponsors among entrepreneurs as well as municipalities to collect as much money as possible," Onderka stated. The placement of the last two statues is planned only after the construction of parking spaces near the nearby Janáček Theatre. Moderation and Wisdom will indeed stand on the site of today's parking lot next to St. Thomas Church. Several more statues should also be erected in Brno soon, such as a work commemorating the famous inventor of the light bulb, Thomas Alva Edison, or the second Czechoslovak president, Edvard Beneš.
