Brno - From October 24, people will have the opportunity to view 21 designs for an equestrian statue of Margrave Jošt of Luxembourg in the mayor's salons of Brno's Old Town Hall, which is to be located in Moravské Square near St. Thomas Church. Interested parties can express their opinions on the designs. This is the second and also the last competition announced by the city, as the winning design of the late Marius Kotrba was not favored by the council in the first one. According to Mayor Roman Onderka, if the council does not approve any proposal again, another statue would be placed in the square. He stated this in a press release today. "Either we succeed in finding an equestrian statue worth having, or we will consider how to approach the space and the allegory of Courage differently. However, I believe we will fulfill the vision of architect Petr Hrůša and have four allegories of virtues here. Even at the cost that it may not be Jošt or an equestrian statue, but something else," said Onderka. There are already allegorical statues of justice, moderation, and prudence in the square. Jošt is meant to be the allegory of courage as the man who managed to make Moravia a strong land and also briefly became the Roman Emperor before his death. The jury will meet on October 22, the winning design will receive 100,000 crowns, the second 70,000, and the third 40,000 crowns. The city council will announce the results of the competition on November 14, and until then the exhibition will be open daily from Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 18:00.
