Brno - People in Brno can view the designs of future city sculptures at the Old Town Hall until January. They will see the equestrian statue of Jošt of Luxembourg, which the city leadership plans to erect in Moravské náměstí, as well as the Holocost memorial, which will be located in 28. října Square. Both statues have their supporters and opponents, and people will be able to judge them for themselves. They will also be able to view designs that did not win in the competitions.

The equestrian statue of Jošt, according to painter and sculptor Jaroslav Róna, will rise directly from the pavement of the square. The statue is disproportionately designed, as the horse has very long legs, for example. "The statue is very successfully executed, and I myself voted for it as well," said the mayor of Brno, Roman Onderka, after the results were announced. The total cost of the statue is 6.8 million crowns. The competition for the statue was announced by the city council several years ago, but in the end, no design was selected. Some members of the public argued after the results were announced that the statue is unnecessarily expensive and that the disproportion does not give Jošt the appropriate seriousness.
The Holocaust memorial in 28. října Square will be placed in greenery and will consist of a black cube with a water feature. The memorial aims to honor both Jewish and Romani victims. However, according to some critics, such as architect Lubomír Hruška, a similar monument stands in Minnesota, USA, and the winning Brno design is a plagiarism.
The exact date when both statues will be erected in Brno is still unclear. People can view the designs placed in the top three positions in the competitions for free at the Old Town Hall.
