At the end of Revoluční Street, there could be a house by DaM

Prague - The construction of a building at the end of Revoluční Street near Štefánik Bridge has already received permission from Prague's heritage officials. Jan Kněžínek, the director of the city's heritage department, said this today to ČTK. "It was a long, two-year process," he stated. According to him, the project represents "new and creative architecture." "I believe this is what is needed in Prague," he added.
    When the large building proposed by the DaM studio could actually be constructed is still unclear and depends mainly on further administrative procedures. The authors will present their project named Novomlýnská Brána in detail at a press conference on Thursday.
    Novomlýnská Brána is expected to address the situation at the forecourt of Štefánik Bridge, where the access to Revoluční Street is framed on one side by the Merkur Palace designed by Jaroslav Fragner, while on the other side the street ends with the gables of buildings serving as advertising spaces. A private investor has therefore approached several architectural studios, among which the proposal by Petr Burian and his colleagues from the DaM studio emerged as the winner; Burian is known for, among other things, the famous and awarded Euro Palace in Prague on Můstku.
    The investor of the building is the owner of the neo-Renaissance building, which today closes the street front. The project includes its demolition. Experts say the building does not have exceptional artistic or historical value, but it is part of the Prague Heritage Reserve, and therefore it is protected as part of it.
    The Prague office of the National Heritage Institute disagreed with the proposal, among other reasons due to the demolition of the building; the new structure, according to experts, does not bring any added value to the location that would justify sacrificing the old building. However, the construction permit from the perspective of heritage care is issued by the heritage department of the city hall.
