In connection with the increased public attention devoted to the development at the corner of Revoluční and Lannova streets in the forecourt of Štefánikův most in Prague 1, the Czech Chamber of Architects (ČKA) considers it necessary to publish this statement:

Many media outlets have reported positively that the Atelier DaM architects, the authors of the design for the new building, won the architectural competition announced by a private investor at the request of the city. However, no architectural competition has been organized for the new building in the forecourt of Štefánikův most and the neighborhood of the baroque water tower in Prague recently.
The Czech Chamber of Architects is legally mandated to oversee public procurement for construction projects and therefore closely monitors contracts by private investors that affect public spaces and the development of significant places in our republic.
All architectural competitions in the Czech Republic, whether funded with public or private money, should be organized according to uniform, clearly established rules based on internationally recognized standards. These rules are contained primarily in the Public Procurement Act (provisions dedicated to design competitions) and in the Competition Rules of the Czech Chamber of Architects. The competition reported by the media did not take place according to the established rules (for example, there was no known independent expert jury assessing the proposals), and therefore cannot be considered a legitimate architectural competition. Such an important location in the center of Prague also deserves to have a public architectural competition announced, which could bring diverse solutions from a larger number of architects, rather than an invited competition where only selected creators are approached.
In the past, several architectural competitions were held for the same location, which were deemed legitimate by the chamber of architects. However, their results have nothing in common with the design currently under close public scrutiny.
