Karlovy Vary – The Karlovy Vary Region has confirmed a state grant for the repairs of the Imperial Baths in Karlovy Vary. For the rescue of the monument, which is also financially supported by the city of Karlovy Vary, 386 million crowns will be received from the Ministry of Culture. Thanks to this, the region can reduce its share of financing the project, said regional councilor Patrik Pizinger to reporters today.
This year, the region will receive 286 million crowns from the ministry, and in 2022 and 2023, it will receive 50 million crowns each year. "Therefore, the region can reduce its share, which originally amounted to 539 million crowns, to 492 million crowns. This amount already includes expenses for the second phase, including additional works. These arose in the first phase due to newly discovered valuable historical elements that also needed to be restored against the original plan," said the councilor.
The expected expenses from the region's side thus amount to 492 million crowns, state grants 386 million crowns, and the city of Karlovy Vary will provide 100 million crowns.
The reconstruction work on the monument is proceeding according to schedule. "We have completed the foundation work, which includes demolition work, foundation adjustments, and atrium preparation for further progress. Work is also continuing on the repair of the slate roof and part of the facade. At this moment, we are starting the installation of electrical and water networks, and the revitalization of Zander Hall and its surroundings is also underway," Pizinger said.
The region is now preparing the future use of the Imperial Baths in cooperation with the city. The facility is intended for cultural use, specifically as spaces for the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra. Currently, the construction of a concert hall is also being prepared. The region intends to rent part of the spaces to private entities. The reconstruction, which began at the end of 2019, is expected to last until the end of 2023.
