Karlovy Vary – The construction of a concert hall within the Imperial Baths in Karlovy Vary is likely to be taken over from the city by the Karlovy Vary Region. Representatives of Karlovy Vary and the region have preliminarily agreed on this. The reason is that the city wanted to use subsidies for the construction, but the investment in a hall that will be inside a building owned by the region would be complicated. This was stated by Governor Petr Kulhánek (for STAN) to ČTK.
According to the original plan, the construction of the concert hall was to be designed and financed by the city of Karlovy Vary. European funding from the ITI program was expected to assist with the financing. However, the assignment could be complicated by property relations. It is usually not possible to obtain subsidies for an investment in a property that is not owned by the applicant.
"We are discussing an amendment to the memorandum between the city and the region. We have concluded that at the moment the region places a concert hall in its property and would like to draw external grant funds, it would be appropriate for the applicant to be the Karlovy Vary Region. Of course, the commitment of the city's contribution remains unchanged. The question will be its amount, because ultimately the hall should be cheaper than originally anticipated," Kulhánek stated.
The construction of the concert hall is currently in the project preparation phase, and the region wants to announce a tender as soon as possible, using the Design and Build method, whereby the contractor will develop the project and also deliver the construction. According to Kulhánek, construction work could begin in the spring of next year. The construction is expected to be carried out by dismantling the structure of the hall through the roof of the Imperial Baths. The estimated costs were originally 100 million crowns, but it seems that the price could drop to around 60 million crowns.
The Imperial Baths themselves are currently undergoing gradual reconstruction, which is expected to be completed in June 2023. The current contract price, including additional costs incurred, is 853 million crowns.
