Náměšť nad Oslavou

Náměšť nad Oslavou - Extensive repairs have begun on two sections of the main castle building in Náměšť nad Oslavou. This year and next year, restorers will repair the most important parts of Renaissance architecture - the bay window on the eastern façade of the castle and the decorated arcades of the inner courtyard dating from the third quarter of the 16th century. This was stated today by the castle curator Marek Buš.

"These parts of the castle, which are significant evidence of Renaissance architecture in Moravia, have been in completely inadequate condition for several years," said the curator. The sandstone used is damaged in many places, and individual parts of the decoration are so disturbed that they are falling off or peeling in layers. The expert restoration should return these most valuable architectural elements of the castle to their original form, stabilize them, and preserve them for future generations.

Alongside the restoration of the bay window and arcades, the Renaissance stone window surrounds will be repaired, wooden elements of windows and doors will be refurbished, and a comprehensive restoration of the plaster layers of the entrance wing and interior courtyard is also being prepared. This year, the restoration will focus on the bay window, entrance wing, and one wall of the inner courtyard's arcades. In 2018, the second wing of the arcades and the plaster of the remaining two courtyard walls will be restored. The work will not disrupt the visitor operation of the castle or the planned cultural events.

The repairs and restoration are financed by the Ministry of Culture and the National Heritage Institute. The total costs, including VAT, will exceed 15 million crowns.
