Litomyšl (Svitavy Region) - The embankment of the Loučná River in Litomyšl, which is set to undergo repairs, will retain its natural character. The appearance of the area was co-determined by the city's residents based on surveys, workshops, and an art workshop for children. Their ideas will become part of the architectural study. The repair of the embankment is expected to cost around 30 million crowns, with grants of up to 25 million being provided by the Proměny Foundation. This information was provided to ČTK by Jolana Říhová from the foundation. "Involving people in the process of gradually transforming a place is an important part of the projects we support. Participation is often discussed, but rarely with a concrete idea of how to implement it. In Litomyšl, we want to demonstrate through various examples that communication with people pays off for cities and that it offers hidden potential," stated Říhová. The restoration of the Loučná River embankment has been in preparation since the beginning of this year. An architectural competition for the design of the area is planned for next year. The renovated embankment is expected to open at the turn of 2015 and 2016. The Proměny Foundation is collaborating with the city on the project preparation, organizing the architectural competition, and assisting in the selection process for the construction contractor. If the city meets the stipulated conditions, it can receive a financial contribution from the foundation for the maintenance of the embankment for three years after its completion. The Loučná embankment is set to become a recreational area for leisure activities. The location is defined by the Za vodou inn and the bridge near Smetana House. It will connect to the ground floor, which has already been modified by architect Josef Pleskot, thus extending the existing promenade.
