Jihlava - The most prestigious construction of last year in the Vysočina region is the renovation of the castle in Herálec in the Havlíčkův Brod district. In the tenth edition of the Vysočina Building competition, the new constructions of the senior home Silver Terraces in Jihlava, the General Health Insurance Office building in Jihlava, the bypass of Moravské Budějovice, the renovation of the center of Havlíčkův Brod, and the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Jihlava also succeeded. The results of the competition were announced today at the Horácké Theatre in Jihlava.

"This year, 27 building projects from 2010 and 2011 were submitted to the competition, which is the second highest number in the history of this competition," said Martin Pertl from the organizing Vysočina Construction Association to ČTK. The constructions competed for success in six categories. The expert committee ultimately did not award the Building of the Year title in the categories of craftsmanship details of the building and industrial and engineering constructions.
During the renovation of the castle in Herálec, the jury noted that it was exceptionally successful in transforming a historically valuable monument into a hotel of the highest category. The five-star hotel complex was designed by the Jihlava company Fortis.
In the category of buildings for housing and tourism, the construction of the senior home Silver Terraces also scored well. The modern building was created by renovating a former and unused production facility near the city center. The best transport construction was the bypass of Moravské Budějovice. The 6.3-kilometer bypass includes three new intersections and five bridges.
Among the renovations, the repair of the Gothic Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross received the greatest recognition. A unique new material technology was used for the construction of the vault of the presbytery and altar in connection with Gothic architecture for the first time in Central Europe.
The public award was won by the construction of the music club Xanadu in Jihlava. The accompanying program of the Vysočina Building competition was the traditional student competition in design. This year, the students' task was to develop a project for a kayaking center in Jihlava.
The competition is organized by the Vysočina Construction Association in collaboration with the Union of Entrepreneurs in Construction in the Czech Republic, the Czech Chamber of Authorized Engineers and Technicians Active in Construction, and the Vysočina Region.
