Klagenfurt/Prague – At the Austrian Klagenfurt on the Pyramidenkogel hill, the highest wooden observation tower in the world was opened ten years ago, on June 20, 2013. The 100-meter tall structure, shaped like a spiral and made of larch pillars and steel, offers visitors breathtaking views of the Alps and Lake Wörthersee. A curiosity is the 120-meter long indoor slide, which daring individuals can ride down on provided mats to the ground floor.

The current observation tower is already the third structure of its kind at the top of Pyramidenkogel. The first one was built in 1950 and was a wooden observation tower 27 meters tall. In 1968, it was replaced by a 54-meter high reinforced concrete structure. The current observation tower began construction in 2012. The architects were Markus Klaura and Dietmar Kaden, and the designer was Markus Lackner. The construction cost eight million euros.
