Brno - The construction of a new judicial complex in Brno, which has been in preparation for years, will officially begin on Tuesday. The outgoing Minister of Justice Pavel Němec will come to Brno to lay the foundation stone of the palace valued at nearly one billion crowns. This was reported by the ministry spokesman Petr Dimun.

In the new judicial complex, upon completion in 2008, employees of the Municipal Court in Brno, the District Court Brno-Country, and the Municipal Public Prosecutor's Office in Brno will settle in. "Thanks to its construction, all spatial problems of all judicial entities located in Brno will be resolved. At the same time, sufficient spatial reserves will be created for further development of justice in Brno," said Dimun.
The complex will consist of two buildings with two underground and six above-ground floors. The buildings are expected to have 60 courtrooms with separate entrances for judges, defendants, witnesses, and the public. There will be about 120 judges working in the new judicial complex, and they will be located near the offices of court clerks and judicial officials.
The old judicial palace on Roosevelt Street in Brno has been serving for nearly a century and has been extensively renovated to its original form in recent years. Currently, it houses both the regional and municipal courts of Brno. However, the building has too few offices and courtrooms. This forces the judiciary to rent expensive spaces in the center of Brno. The District Court Brno-Country and the Public Prosecutor's Office also face similar issues. In the historic judicial palace, only the regional court, which employs 148 judges, is expected to be based in the future.
The Supreme Administrative Court will also soon move to the new headquarters. It will relocate from temporary spaces in Masaryk Street to a reconstructed building on Moravian Square. "The move is planned for September," said court spokeswoman Sylva Dostálová to the ČTK.
