Nový Jičín - The Nový Jičín town hall, which is a cultural monument, is undergoing renovation. Experts are restoring stone elements on the Renaissance building from the 16th century until the end of September. The town hall spokesperson Marie Machková informed journalists about this today.

"The outdoor and indoor stone parts are being cleaned, conserved, chipped pieces are being glued, joints and minor defects are being filled with replacement material. The cost of the work has been estimated at nearly 1.2 million crowns, of which 845,000 crowns will be covered by a grant from the Ministry of Culture," said the spokesperson.

The outdoor stone parts of the building and the belfry's walkway have already been cleaned. Currently, defects will be repaired. "Inside the town hall, the floor in the vestibule, the staircase from the first to the third above-ground floor, the window sills, tiles, pillars, and portals will be restored," specified Lumír Balaryn from the organizational department.

Machková reminded that some of the repaired stone elements are still original. However, most of them are from the 20th century, as the building was significantly remodeled in 1930. "The most valuable artifact that will be restored is the stone coat of arms of the city from 1613. It is embedded in the wall by the central staircase," added the spokesperson.
