New bridge in Litvínov will be built according to the design of Tej, Srnka, and Blanka

Litvínov - A new bridge will be built over Mezibořská Street in Litvínov, located in the Most region. City representatives have already met with the architects who won the competition for the largest investment in the city in recent years. The budget is approximately 55 million korunas. This was reported by the spokesperson for Litvínov, Margita Kučerová.

"At the kickoff meeting, it was agreed with the architect and designer that a study will be prepared to address the construction and other modifications to the roads, parking under the bridge, and embankments," Kučerová stated.

Among the conditions of the assignment was the narrowing to two traffic lanes, one sidewalk, the preservation of the view of the Ore Mountains, and parking areas under the bridge. Work on the project documentation will now begin, with a preliminary deadline for the start of bridge construction set for early 2019, and the actual construction is estimated to take a year.

The current bridge, which is part of the main thoroughfare through the city, is at the end of its lifespan. Maintenance costs are high, so the town hall decided on a new one.

Ten proposals were submitted for the architectural competition. The winning design is signed by architects Marek Blank, Petr Tej, and Janek Srnka. The jury praised the chosen proportions. "The design is convincingly designed with its lines, particularly for its clarity, succinctness, simplicity, and subtlety; it truthfully enters the context of the location, and the investment costs appear to be realistic," the jury stated in its evaluation of the proposal.

The structure is designed from concrete prefabricates. Compared to the current bridge, the new one will be narrower by 5.3 meters. This is intended to improve conditions for the residents of the adjacent houses.

The architectural competition for the new bridge was the second in the history of Litvínov. The first, in 1947, was for the construction of Koldom (a collective house). The authors are Václav Hilský and Evžen Linhart, and the house is a technical monument. The project was completed in 1958.
