Litvínov - In Litvínov, in the Most area, demolition of the bridge over Mezibořská Street will begin this autumn. A new one will be constructed according to an architectural design. The city has received a grant for the investment estimated at 90 million crowns. City hall spokesperson Jitka Pavlíková told ČTK.
The city will now announce a public tender. The councilors approved the tender documentation. Litvínov will receive 75 percent of eligible costs from the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. The current bridge, which is part of the main communication line through the city, is at the end of its life. Maintenance costs are high, which is why the city hall decided on a new one.
The winning company must ensure the demolition of the existing bridge and the construction of a new, narrower one. Its design is based on the requirements of a study resulting from an architectural competition held in 2016.
The adjustments to the paved areas under the bridge will create 39 parking spaces, including two spots for vehicles of people with reduced mobility and orientation. The construction work also includes new public lighting on and under the bridge and landscaping adjustments. The expected start date for the work is this October, with completion and commissioning anticipated by June 2022 at the latest.
The architectural competition for the new bridge was the second in the history of Litvínov. The first, in 1947, was for the construction of Koldom (a collective house). The authors are Václav Hilský and Evžen Linhart, and the building is a technical monument. The project was completed in 1958.
