The slaughterhouse has been saved and will serve contemporary art! Before that happens in September, you will have an extraordinary opportunity to peek into the inner workings of this newly renovated cultural monument in May. In mid-May, we will open the slaughterhouse to the public, and you will be able to explore it among the first visitors. Then we will close it for a few weeks so that the PLATO gallery can "move in." During this Month of Open Doors, we have prepared a few interesting events for you to get acquainted with the slaughterhouse. We will continually update the event with news and interesting facts, so stay tuned!
What can you look forward to in May? Ceremonial handover of the building and opening of the exhibition about slaughterhouses, their reconstruction, and developmental visions for their surroundings Debate with Robert Konieczny: PLATO Gallery in the context of other buildings by KWK Promes Commented tour with the director of PLATO, Marek Pokorný Commented tour and morning coffee with Mayor Tomáš Macura Commented tours with historians and preservationists Romana Rosová and Martin Strakoš, authors of the architectural-historical survey of the slaughterhouse The slaughterhouse is no longer a pigsty – an evening of the Exploratory Society Za krásnou Ostravu Special tours for families with children (with Hana and Tomáš Volkmerovými) Dates and times will be specified soon. Admission will be free for all events, but due to limited capacity, reservation of places in advance will be necessary!
Note: The area around the slaughterhouse is currently under construction, which will be completed in September 2022. We apologize for the worsened access to the slaughterhouse and thank you for your understanding. The slaughterhouse construction is located on Porážková street and currently does not have an assigned identification number. For easier orientation, please enter PLATO Ostrava (Janáčkova 22) into your search engine; the slaughterhouse is 70 meters away. Entrance to the building is from both Masná street and Porážková street. After the Month of Open Doors, the building will be closed (except for Colours of Ostrava) until September 2022. The slaughterhouse building is (almost) empty so that visitors can get acquainted with the clean architectural design of Robert Konieczny. The interior is not yet furnished.
