Pardubice - At the December meeting, Pardubice city councilors should decide whether the city will purchase the automatic mills. The monument by architect Josef Gočár, located in the center of Pardubice, is for sale for 40 million crowns. This was reported today by Mayor Štěpánka Fraňková (Association for Pardubice). The decision has already been postponed several times by the city.

"We will definitely be discussing the automatic mills again at the December meeting. The city should state whether it is buying or not buying them. By then, we should have an expert opinion that will help us in our decision-making," said the mayor.
The city owns assets worth 8.2 billion crowns and is starting to dispose of unnecessary properties through auctions. Some time ago, the city leadership hinted that it would prefer to collaborate with an investor. The mayor has already met with one interested party. "I would say that he is a Pardubice patriot, a patron. We are exchanging opinions on what could be in the automatic mills," she said.
The city has previously hired a coordinator who prepared a study on the use of the automatic mills. In September, councilors refused to conduct another analysis that would also assess the economic aspects of potential cultural and commercial investments and projects. It would cost more than half a million crowns, which many councilors considered too much.
The city has now tasked the association Mills for the City to continue preparing further materials on how to deal with the properties. "The group will offer a potential buyer possible uses for the automatic mills. Without participation from the public sector, citizen initiatives, it is not possible to operate the area meaningfully," said the mayor.
The heritage-protected mills are being sold by the company GoodMills, which ceased production there this spring. The mills are one of Gočár's first and most famous designs. They were built between 1910 and 1925. Gočár was inspired by Anglo-Saxon architecture when designing the mills. The buildings are characterized by raw masonry made of dark and light bricks.
