Žatec - Žatec in the Louny region will continue with the repairs of Nerudovo Square. In the second phase, the city intends to renovate the surroundings and revitalize part of the Prague suburb. Last year, engineering networks were reconstructed for 8.7 million crowns, and the square's surface was improved. The symbolic conclusion of the first phase will be an event organized by the city called Day Extra, which will take place on February 29, during which people will be able to decide on the dominant feature of the square, said the mayor of Žatec, Zdeňka Hamousová (ANO), to ČTK.
"Nerudovo Square is a secondary square in Žatec that has been neglected. We did the reconstruction in the first phase, which included the networks. What is underground is not visible, but it significantly increases the cost of investment. We have a beautiful historical cobblestone pavement, benches, and lamps according to the architect's design," Hamousová said.
During the Day Extra event, people will have the opportunity to participate in deciding the appearance of the square. "During the program, citizens can fill out a survey indicating what should form the dominant feature of Nerudovo Square," Hamousová said. The city councilors previously rejected the option of having a statue of a horse there. "Whether a statue of a prominent person or another piece of art will appear instead will be decided later, and the citizens of the city can also participate in this," she added. The city administration has prepared one million crowns in the budget for the statue.
The second phase will also include repairs to the streets adjacent to the square. Currently, project documentation is being prepared, and according to the mayor, the actual work is expected to take place next year.
