Jihlava - One of the most controversial Czech buildings - the Prior department store in Jihlava - will disappear from the local square for a week. The building is to be completely covered with white protective nets by Tuesday evening at the latest, when the 15th International Documentary Film Festival Jihlava will begin in the city. The square will thus significantly change its appearance for the next seven days. This was reported today by the festival director Marek Hovorka. "When the festival architects Josef Čančík and Vít Šimek decided to wrap the festival buildings in white dresses, it was only a small step to wrapping the entire Prior," said Hovorka. According to Hovorka, almost every resident has wished at least once that Prior did not stand in the square - or at least not in this form. "And I'm not even talking about the reactions of tourists when they appear in Jihlava for the first time. They can only shake their heads in disbelief," added Hovorka. The wrapping will begin with a team of specialists on Saturday. Hovorka stated that it is not always necessary to cover objects that people would most like to demolish. The installation by Bulgarian artist Christo, who wrapped a bridge on the Seine in Paris, showed how interesting it is to let "disappear" even much more beautiful buildings. "Although Parisians have crossed the Pont-Neuf a thousand times, when it was suddenly wrapped, they found it hard to remember what it actually looked like. Thus, they stopped at the bridge and examined it with new eyes," added Hovorka. The documentary film festival in Jihlava will take place from October 25 to 30. It is organized by the Jihlava Association of Amateur Filmmakers. In this current, jubilee year, viewers will see 229 films from 41 countries around the world. The organizers selected them from over 2,500 submitted films. Twenty-three of them will be presented in their world premiere.
