Prague - Among the narrower selection of 50 nominated projects for the Grand Prix Architects award are, for example, the Štvanická Bridge in Prague, the Conference and Multipurpose Hall in the Císařské Lázně in Karlovy Vary, the Sports Hall in Řevnice, or the modifications of Tachovské Square in Prague's Žižkov. Representatives of the organizer of the competition, the Association of Architects, presented the narrower selection for potential winners to journalists at a press conference. The announcement of the winners will take place on October 21.

The selection of projects is in seven categories. There are 14 nominated projects in the new constructions category, four in the family houses category, 17 in the renovations category, two in interiors, as well as in landscape architecture and garden design. One project received a nomination in the Urbanism category, and the jury will select the winner from seven projects in the Architectural Design, Small Architecture, and Artistic Work in Architecture category. The list of all 50 nominees can be found on the website of the Association of Architects.

"The quality of the submitted works is in no way inferior to the rest of Europe. Architecturally, we have matched the surrounding world. It is surprising that, with the exception of Prague, the most finalists are again from the Moravian-Silesian Region. The winning works will be exhibited at the congress in Barcelona in 2026," said the chairman of the association, Oleg Haman.

The jury was formed, as in previous years, from five members, one of whom may be originally from the Czech Republic. The winners will be selected by the American-Israeli jury chairman Rafi Segal, Danish Anne Beim, Finnish Pia Kuusiniemi, Martin Jančok from Slovakia, and domestic architect representative Michal Gabaš.

A total of 207 projects entered this year's 31st edition. The competition was established by Alena Šrámková as the chairwoman of the Association of Architects in 1993. She received the Personality of Czech Architecture award in 1994, a lifetime achievement award in 2000, a tribute from the Czech Chamber of Architects in 2007, a medal for merit in 2008, and a Ministry of Culture award for contribution to architecture in 2010.

The Association of Architects began to form in 1921 as a continuation of architect associations from the First Republic. It transformed from the Union of Architects in 1989 and participated in the founding of the professional organization of the Czech Chamber of Architects between 1990 and 1993. In 1948, it became a founding member of the International Union of Architects. The association aims to promote Czech architecture to a wide professional and lay audience both in the Czech Republic and abroad.
