Part of the long-term effort of the Pardubice association Offcity is the cultivation of public space and support for the work of contemporary artists, architects, and other professionals interested in urban space. Since its inception, Offcity has been inviting inspiring personalities from both the Czech Republic and abroad to Pardubice to open up a broader discourse, new possibilities for collaboration, and to mediate various approaches to working with the city’s public space for the residents of Pardubice.
"Through an open international call addressed to artists, architects, theorists, and other creative personalities, we attempt to initiate a broader interdisciplinary dialogue on specific themes related to the iconic building of the Automatic Mills in Pardubice."
A total of 25 individuals or creative collectives from 6 European countries responded to the open call and submitted their applications and portfolios for the selection process. After a detailed study of all applications, projects, and author portfolios, the jury members agreed on the following selection:
Nancy Dewhurst (UK) Matěj Forejt and Vojtěch Kočí (CZ) Kateřina Jirsová, Karolína Koupalová, and Anna Krtičková (CZ) Ian Mikyska (CZ) Aňa Šebelková (CZ)
The selected authors and creative teams will create in the area of the Automatic Mills during the summer and autumn of this year and will assist in further cultivating this building and its surroundings.
The project of short-term creative residencies is implemented by Offcity z.s. with financial support from the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the statutory city of Pardubice in collaboration with the Smetana couple, the owners of the Automatic Mills complex.
