The renovation of the House of Arts in Brno will be completed this year

Brno - The renovation of the Brno House of Arts should be completed this year. The city council decided today that the construction company Tocháček would repair the exhibition building for 44 million crowns. The council was originally supposed to select the contractor last November. According to Deputy Mayor Barbora Javorová, the delay will be made up. The company should complete the renovation by December, the deputy mayor told ČTK.
    "This is a company that has experience with historical matters. They have renovated, for example, Špilberk," the politician stated. The House of Arts was built in 1910 in the style of Viennese Secession based on a design by Heinrich Ried. It served as an exhibition hall for the German-speaking minority in Brno. After World War II, the city took over the building, and architect Bohuslav Fuchs remodeled it in the spirit of "Brno functionalism."
    According to the director of the exhibition institution Rostislav Koryčánek, the building urgently needed repairs. "The condition of the installations is catastrophic, for example, heating and electricity. The halls on the upper floor overheated in the summer and could not be heated in the winter," he previously told ČTK. The renovated building is said to be more modern, with technicians set to install variable shading, among other things.
    The repairs to the House of Arts are set to include the construction of a café and an art club. However, Koryčánek noted that the funds from the city would not be sufficient, especially for the construction of the club. Therefore, artists are preparing an auction of donated works. Among the donors will be painter Milan Kunc, who recently exhibited at the House of Arts, and sculptor Čestmír Suška.
