Hodonín - The Central Masaryk Square in Hodonín can be reconstructed in such a way that greenery will be significantly added and a new fountain created. This conclusion was reached in the past few days by the South Moravian regional office, which dealt with the dispute between the town hall and heritage conservationists regarding the future appearance of the square. "We are glad that the region agreed with us. We hope to quickly reach an agreement with the heritage conservationists on the next steps. We do not want to delay the planned modifications to the square,” said Hodonín's deputy mayor Zuzana Domesová today to ČTK. Some time ago, Hodonín commissioned a survey for the modifications of Masaryk Square. In this survey, around 10,000 households in the city were asked through a questionnaire how the city center should be transformed. People suggested that the current paved parking lot should turn into a zone with greenery and also a fountain, which would beautify the entire area. However, the heritage conservationists objected that the project would make the central square of Hodonín more like a village green. On the contrary, they wanted the current greenery in this place to be further reduced. The councilors pointed out that the project with the new appearance of the square was created according to its original form. A well stood there until 1904. "The region said that the square is not a heritage zone, therefore it does not require the strictest heritage protection. Moreover, it supported our view that it is appropriate to green the city center,” Domesová stated. According to her, the town hall is only prepared for a single concession - the planned fountain does not have to be located in the center of the square but at its edge. The main goal is to plant new trees, shrubs, and flowers in the square. The modifications will cost ten million korunas. The work is expected to be completed by next summer.
