Pardubice - Pardubice city council members today approved the purchase of land for the future seat of the regional court. Together with Pardubice, the Pardubice Region is also to participate in the transaction. Both the city and the region have stipulated that the state later buy the land at a price based on an expert valuation. The municipality estimates the final costs for the town hall to be around eight million crowns. For the construction of the court, the area of the former Mototechny on Na Spravedlnosti Street, measuring about 11,500 square meters, is to be used. It is currently owned by a private company. "The land has a suitable shape and is also a suitable location in terms of the city's zoning plan. Furthermore, other judicial authorities could fit here in the future," said Deputy Mayor Michal Koláček. For the area, the Pardubice city hall and the Pardubice Region are to pay 36.5 million crowns together. According to the agreement, the region should pay 60 percent of this amount, while the city will cover the remaining 40 percent. A condition of both the municipality and the region is that the state will then buy the land from them at a price determined by the expert report. However, this will be lower than the purchase price, estimated at 15 to 20 million crowns. "The city and the region will ultimately need to pay about 20 million crowns together, with the city covering about eight million crowns, which we would donate for the sake of the homeland," stated Koláček. Councilors had no serious objections. "It seems crazy to me that we have to pay for something that is the state's obligation, but I will vote for it," said council member Miroslav Petráň. For the establishment of the regional court, the city and the region also considered other locations. Recently, the part of the former heating plant owned by the British company International Power, which owns the Opatovice power plant, seemed like the most realistic option. However, the municipal commission for urban planning and architecture deemed it unsuitable and undignified for the court. A branch of the Regional Court in Hradec Králové has been operating in Pardubice for several years, but the most serious crimes are not tried in Pardubice. According to the original plan, a judicial complex was to be established in the city, where not only the regional court but also regional and district public prosecutor's offices would reside.
