The parking garage at the regional headquarters in Liberec will cost 246 million CZK

Liberec - The new parking garage next to the regional headquarters in Liberec will be a bit more expensive. After the seventh amendment, the region will pay over 246 million crowns for the construction, which is 13 million more than what was originally stated in the contract. This is an increase of almost six percent. The reason is additional work; for example, there will be more charging stations for electric cars than the project originally planned. Costs have also risen due to anti-graffiti coating of the facade. This was stated today by the governor Martin Půta (Mayors for the Liberec Region).

"The architectural competition took place in 2016, and the project documentation that resulted from that competition naturally corresponded to the technical parameters at that time. At the beginning of this year, after some discussions, we decided that there would be car chargers with significantly greater capacity, which added about five million crowns. In the vast majority of cases, we made decisions to ensure that the parking garage corresponds to the time when it will be opened; if there was any technical improvement, it would be done as part of the construction," the governor added.

The parking garage will have a green roof, accommodate 244 cars, of which one hundred spaces will be available to the public. According to Půta, the parking fee has not yet been set, but it should be comparable to the prices for parking in the vicinity of the regional office. Officials will also have to pay for parking; according to the governor, discussions are currently ongoing regarding the fee amount. "But they will not park for free," he added. The ceremonial opening of the parking garage is scheduled for December 12, when it will begin serving the public, but this has not been decided yet. "But it will be at the latest by January 2024," he added.

The six-story building made of steel and concrete has two entrances and exits, one from the bottom near the Forum shopping center, and the other from Náchodská Street on the fourth above-ground floor. This construction is part of a billion-crown project to cultivate the lower center of Liberec, which began in 2014 when the region purchased buildings and land neighboring its headquarters from VÚTS (formerly the Research Institute of Textile Machines). A second phase of landscaping around the regional office, known as Náplavka, with open access to the Lužická Nisa is expected to follow. The region received six bids for the 160 million crown project but has not yet selected a contractor.
