Pec pod Sněžkou (Trutnov Region) - The representatives of Pec pod Sněžkou in the Trutnov region canceled the tender for the main contractor for the new cable car to Sněžka. Mayor Alan Tomášek announced that the city will issue a new tender, and the winner of the new tender could be announced in April, reports today's Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD). Due to deficiencies in the offer, the evaluation committee recommended that the municipality eliminate even the winning consortium of the companies Eurovia CS and Doppelmayr, which led to the disqualification of the last applicant from the competition. “Eurovia did not include some of the prices we requested in the documentation, so the offers could not be fully compared. Since we had already eliminated two of the three registered companies earlier, now all participants in the tender have been disqualified, and we will have to compete again from the beginning,” he said. Originally, three entities applied for the competition. The consortium of companies BAK and Leitner, and the consortium of Chládek and Tintěra and Leitner were eliminated from the tender because both offers included the company Leitner. Thus, only the consortium of Doppelmayr and Eurovia CS remained in the competition with an offer of 315 million crowns without VAT. The consortium of Chládek and Tintěra offered 299 million crowns, and the consortium of BAK offered a price of 279 million crowns. The company BAK refused to accept the disqualification and requested the Office for the Protection of Competition to review the tender process. The municipality believes that the new tender will not delay construction too much; the winner of the new tender is expected to be known in April. “Any potential appeals could push this deadline again. Nevertheless, we are not under any significant time pressure yet. I still believe that we will manage the planned relocation of networks and the initiation of the lower station construction this year,” said Tomášek. If construction were to start in the spring, the over 60-year-old cable car would cease operation in September 2011. The structure of the current cable car, including the concrete foundations, will be dismantled. A helicopter will primarily be used for this task. The new cable car is expected to go into trial operation in June 2013. The new cable car will have four-seat cabins instead of the current open two-passenger seats. Access to the cable car will be more convenient, as the lower station will be moved closer to the parking lot at the Lesovna lodge. The intermediate station on Růžová hora and the upper station on Sněžka will remain in their current locations. The hourly capacity of the cable car will remain at 250 people. However, the new cable car will be better able to withstand wind. Annually, around 100,000 tourists will ride the cable car to the summit.
