Písek - Písek will build a new library and education center for 133 million crowns excluding VAT. The original project price was 20 million higher. The lower offer came from a competition for the project. Kristýna Barchini, spokesperson for the Písek city office, told ČTK.
"We would like to start implementation at the turn of April and May next year," said Deputy Mayor Josef Knot (TOP 09). The new building will be created from the former elementary school on Alšovo Square, which borders the current library building. "The new library will serve the purpose of lifelong learning, especially in the fields of languages, IT, natural and technical sciences," noted Václav Filip, head of the investment and development department of the Písek city office.
The architectural competition for the thirty-thousand-strong Písek was announced in 2013 and won by Studio A.B.S. The new design of the building primarily aims to clean the former school building of all modern extensions and other interventions. Thus, the extension of the dining hall, the freight elevator, and the boiler room in the truss, which is manifested by a massive dormer on the roof, should disappear.
"The newly designed wing of the storage creates an internal quiet courtyard with no access for traffic for the needs of the new library location. The intention is to utilize not only the indoor but also the outdoor spaces of the revitalized original school building for library operations," Knot stated. The ground floor of the connected building will also house a tourist information center.
