Plzeň - Plzeň will this year build modular containers for various services on the vacant clay area by the side entrance of the main train station. It will provide about 15 million crowns from last year's budget surplus for this. An information center for the city will be located under the bus terminal, serving as a gateway to Plzeň, along with catering services, parking for cyclists, and possibly bike boxes and car sharing. CTK was informed by Deputy Mayors Michal Vozobule (TOP 09) and Pavel Šindelář (ODS).

"This is the area by the side entrance of the station to Šumavská Street, which is becoming the dominant entrance. That is also why we are adjusting traffic today so that cars will not pass through Šumavská Street from September or October, allowing people arriving or departing from Plzeň or transferring to public transport to move more comfortably," said Vozobule.

"Modular container buildings will be created there, which will house a café, refreshments, other services, and the city’s info center. It will be on a wooden platform, where there can also be some greenery," said Šindelář. The larger neighboring clay area towards the state road, tram tracks, and the intersection will remain unused for now and will undergo modifications later. These will be part of the documentation for the zoning decision for the entire area.

After the Railway Administration completed the modernization of all platforms at the station and opened new underpasses beneath the tracks, the city hall wants to continue cultivating the unused spaces on the side of the station until final buildings are constructed there. These are included in the zoning study of the large area of Americká-Denisovo embankment-Sirkova. "This (the containers) is currently a temporary solution, as it is an open question how the area will be completed in the future, how the underpass will be utilized, and there is also consideration of moving the tram line, which is a long-term matter," said Vozobule. The stalls will be run by the city company Plzeň 2015, which already manages the former bus depot and the cultural house Peklo.

There is no marked pedestrian crossing at the side entrance from Šumavská, which travelers are calling for. However, the police and city traffic specialists rejected it, stating that it could clog the large Sirkova-Americká intersection. According to Vozobule, pedestrian safety will improve there from September or October when the city will ban cars from passing through Šumavská Street, allowing only buses and trolleybuses. Authorities are already approving traffic signs. "We want to raise the road at the current unmarked crossing opposite the side entrance from Šumavská to the level of the sidewalk in the future. Pedestrians will have a barrier-free surface, and public transport vehicles will have to approach there," said Vozobule. Additionally, a pedestrian crossing will be created at the end of Šumavská Street, leading to a new sidewalk. The concept and development department wants, according to Vozobule, to have crossings on all sides of the large Sirkova-Americká intersection.
